The first generation Tesla Powerwall which was launched earlier this year created a huge amount of interest globally. It kick-started the energy storage industry by creating an awareness that energy storage in homes is no longer a pipe dream – it is a reality.
The Powerwall is a home battery that charges during the day using electricity generated from solar panels or from the grid when utility rates are low. It powers your home in the evening when the sun is not shining or when electricity rates are higher. Many customers in Australia are now enjoying the benefits that the Powerwall can bring to home owners by reducing power bills and their dependence on the grid.
On 29th October 2016, Tesla announced that the second generation Powerwall is coming soon – the Powerwall 2.
Featuring more than twice the energy storage capacity of the original version with 14 kWh capacity, Powerwall 2 is a battery for homes and small businesses that stores energy FREE from the sun and delivers clean, reliable electricity when the sun is not shining. Compact, scaleable and with a built-in inverter, installation is simple, either indoor or outdoor.
Production for Powerwall 2 begins soon at the Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada, with installations in Australia to follow in 2017.
