The five-storey building, featuring 32 high-tech apartments, is located right in the heart of Penrith, just 50 kilometres from Sydney's CBD.

On completion, the residents were delighted with their new apartments; however, the big communal power bill and the lack of power and security during blackouts needed addressing. A recent storm and resulting blackout had left all security doors, carpark doors, lights, and security cameras out of action. No one could get in or out of the building until the power came back on, which caused immense frustration among the residents.

John Tipping challenged Solahart to come up with ways to reduce the communal power bill and recommend an appropriate battery system backup.

Solahart installed a 31.32kW solar power system with three batteries. The batteries are set to have a reserve charge of 60% which means they will never fully drain, and residents will always have stored power in the event of a blackout.

The system has cut the building’s power bill in half and supplied a secure backup system that powers all security doors, lights and security cameras in the event of a blackout.
